Sh*t and Shut up

These are some new ones that have come into my house via reading buddies at school and neighborhood kids. Actually the shut up has been around a while and I’m just waiting for the rest to show up. What do you do with language that you don’t want but that your kids are always around? I try to think of it like bad snacks, they are going to eat them sometimes. They are going to say these words sometimes just like you do.
Try this: Talking about language is something that we all need to do with our kids but how you are do it is up to you. Ask them what they think about these words and why they are using them. Just make sure they hear from you what is important and not left to the wisdom the peanut gallery.
Take away: Sh*t happens and so does bad language. Open up the lines of communication with your kids about why cleaning up their langauge is a good idea. But be advised this will be the first of many talks we all need to have about parts of life we wish would just work out. Something we just need to sit down and hash out. Also don’t forget that shutting up sometimes is the best thing anyone can do.
Dad in the kitchen

Dad I hope you tried those strawberry muffins I suggested last week. I got a solild 8 out of 10 score from the peanut gallery at my house. The goal is to find 5 not 10, 5 things that your kids really like that you feel good about making and refine those. Start with healthy snacks like the brownies below and then branch out into dinner and breakfast. You can do this, you just have to to start!
Cook This: Sweet Potato Brownies
For some reason I feel like if I put sweet potatoes in something it makes it better and better for you. You can do sweet potatoes or black beans and you can’t tell that it’s not just flour and eggs. No need to tell the kids just let them try it.
Dad Fun - Raise Butterflies

Try this: Spring is the perfect time for an outdoor project that can be kid led. Raising butterflies is as close as you can get to real magic. The tough part can be finding milkweed but don’t let that stop you.
Dad Joke of the week:

What's the difference between a well-dressed man on a unicycle and a poorly-dressed man on a bicycle? Attire.
This newsletter is not professional in nature but intended to be real things to try. They won’t all work but this is a process and I’d love for you to join me on the way. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you next week.
Send this to a dad that needs to get his Sh&# together.
