You need a war

I heard this in a movie this week. You need a war. The character heard it from his crazy old dad who said all the problems his son had could be fixed with a good war. Dramatic for sure but this is the point. You need to be fighting for something or for someone or at least working towards something to be engaged in life.

We can’t sit still.

Even if you’re busy, I know you are.

Even if you have kids, I’m sure you do.

This could be running a 5K (or walking one), reading a book a month, finding more connection with your kids, walking 10,000 steps a day. Whatever. Get up and go after something. It is good for you. It gives you a point in the distance to work towards and it even can be fun if you let it. Maybe not a war but a why that lights you up. Go get it dad.

Takeaway: What lights you up everytime you do it? Do more of that. Read this to help you figure it out.

Cook This: Unicorn Rice

The unicorn rice is worth a try at least once. The base is pretty simple and you can find purple sweet potatoes at any Chinese grocery store.

Ingredients:

2 Purple Sweet Pototes

1 to 2 Cups of white rice in a rice cooker

1 Tbsp Soy Sauce

2 scrambled eggs

*Add crushed up seaweed it it’s your thing

Directions: Cook the rice with the sweet potatoes in a rice cooker. Mash them all together and add in the soy sauce and eggs. Shape them into balls and serve. This is great for little kids but the purple potatoes will excite most anyone.

Dad Fun - What is your fall adventure?

Let’s get one of these on the calendar now. Where do you want to go? Who is coming with you? Are you camping? Fishing? Going to see a stadium you’ve always wanted to check out? This connects well to the Die with Zero mantra below. Sit your kids down and figure out something fun and new to do together.

Dad Magic: Die with Zero

Check out this book or any of the podcasts associated with it. The mindset shift is focused on experiences you need to have and when you should have them. People wait too long to do things and then they physically cannot do them. Want to walk the Inca trail? Don’t wait until you are 70. Want to travel with your kids? Don’t wait until they can drive. You get it. Give this a listen at the least to get more insight into this idea. Die with Zero @Allthehacks

This newsletter is not professional in nature but intended to be real things to try. They won’t all work but this is a process and I’d love for you to join me on the way. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you next week.
