Make it an adventure
Every story has a character on an adventure — solving problems, discovering things.
You can give your kids one today. On a random Tuesday.
Hide a few toys or treats. Draw a simple map and tape it to their door. Post clues around the house. Add a small task or riddle. Act like you have no idea where the note came from.
It doesn’t have to be big. It doesn’t have to take long. Make it fun for you, too.
They might roll their eyes at first. Keep going. What feels small to you can feel magical to them.
Everything is what we make it.
Go make an adventure, Dad.
Try this: Dinner in strange places
Forget the table this week for one meal. Eat under the table or in the bathtub. They might even eat more because they are so surprised to be eating under the stairs like Harry Potter. Let us know what spot you pick!
Cook This: Sweet Potato Browines aka disappearing brownies
This is a recipe that replaces things don’t want with things you do. They are also something you can eat to manage that dad bod.
Dad Fun - Start a dad support group
You see them everywhere — at school drop-off, birthday parties, Dinoland. Other dads.
Be the guy who says, “Hey, I’m starting a dad’s breakfast once a month. You in?”
Pick the last Friday or Saturday. Choose a simple spot. Don’t overthink it or you won’t do it.
Maybe it’s 10 dads. Maybe it’s just you and your neighbor.
Either way, someone else needed it too.
Make it happen — for them and for you.
Dad Magic: Fish
Kids love to fish. There’s something magical about pulling a creature from one world into another — holding it, laughing, maybe even giving it a quick kiss before letting it go.
All you need is a simple rod, some worms, and a little water nearby.
It gets you outside. It slows you down. And it’s something you can share for a lifetime.
Check this out: Fishbrain: App that shows families the best spots to fish in your area.
This newsletter is not professional in nature but intended to be real things to try. They won’t all work but this is a process and I’d love for you to join me on the way. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you next week.
