This Week
If you stay in a barbershop long enough….

You are going to get a haircut. I just learned that this week and realized that is something that a lot of people know well. It was in reference to the type of people you hang around and not at all about haircuts. We are a combination of the 5 people we spend the most time with. So who are they? I used this in a conversation with my kids about their friends. Are they thinking about who their friends actually are and how they make them feel about themselves? Are the type of people who talk sh*& about everyone or who have something nice to say about almost everyone? You know the difference dad and so do they. Ask them! See what they say. See if maybe you can plant a seed about considering who they surround themselves with right now. It is a lesson that lasts.
Recipe of the week
Cook this, this week
One thing I want you to try this week is to do some research with your fellow dads/moms that you are hanging around with at soccer or waiting for pick up. What is your kid enjoying right now? What is your favorite kid recipe? Now you will hear A LOT of the same old same old BUT keep asking. The goal here is to create a 20 recipe rotation that is good and good(ish) for you. Let’s get busy dad.

This recipe is easy enough and comes together in 20 minutes. Make it early and put it in the fridge. I am a big fan of making dinner at 6am so I don’t have to scramble at 5pm. I’ll report back if this one will make the top 20.
Dad Fun
The Boring Birthday Party

I am in the process of planning another birthday party. I’m not sure if I even know what fun is anymore. I’ve been trying to figure out what actually means something for a birthday. Try a few of these things and kick some of our old habits.
Do an interview with your kids on thier birthday. Ask the same questions year after year. It is fun to show it to them the next year.
Example: What was the best thing about this year? What you are looking forward to this year?
Try not to go full Scrooge McDuck get your kids to fill out a card with the following and make it happen:
One Gift
One Experience
One food
One thing to do as a family

Dad Magic
365 Days of Art

What we need this year is more connection. For your kid who loves to create ask them if they want to bake with you (if you were already going to bake) or ask them to do this with you. The 365 days of Art is a 5-10 minute activitiy that you can do with your kid in the morning or they can do by themselves. It is easy, fun, and screen free.
Dad to do list:
1. Get your pumpkins
Pick out one halloween craft to create - get all the stuff so you look and are prepared
Don’t skimp on your costume
This newsletter is not professional in nature but intended to be real things to try. They won’t all work but this is a process and I’d love for you to join me on the way. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you next week.
